Little Swimmers!

***Disclaimer: These pictures are HORRIBLE and I considered not even sharing them! Because we were playing in the water I used a cheap, disposable camera and have forgotten how terrible they really can be. You’ll have to really strain to see these pictures, but at least you get the idea…because what’s a post without some pictures?***

Gunner & Karlee became little fishies last week when they started swim lessons!!! They had such a great time in the water, and are devastated that their lessons are over. For the past 2 days they have asked if they were going “simming” after school and get so sad when we tell them we’re done swimming. I am lucky enough to work with someone who teaches lessons, so he hooked us up with lessons in an indoor pool so they could be ready for summer. It was such a neat experience to see them at the beginning and then see them at the end. Don’t get me wrong, they most definitely cannot “Swim” by themselves, but a foundation has been created, and I know because of it they will become strong, safe swimmers. I highly recommend a class for anyone that has young kiddos because you seriously never know when kids will find themselves near water.

They learned how to kick their little legs, reach their little arms (like a doggy paddle!), hold their breath (so we could go under water), blow bubbles, float on their backs (with help from Mom & Dad!) and JUMP in the pool!!! Of course we held onto their hands when they jumped, but the neat thing was seeing them jump in, then immediately roll onto their back and kick to the wall….SUCH a great thing to know how to do in case they accidentally fall in somewhere. They also learned how to hang on and “crawl” along the edge. Believe it or not, they both were able to “crawl” halfway around the pool, all by themselves!

Our instructor said that at their age, and the fact that they did so well, if we will get them in the water at least twice a week, he sees no reason that they can’t be swimming to the bottom of the pool (3’ of water) by the end of summer…HOW COOL IS THAT?!?!
