To celebrate Scott turning the big 3-0 we had a surprise party for the Birthday Boy. For months we made, changed, and finalized plans, all behind his back. I can’t tell you how many times I would be working on the invitation and he would walk in and I would have to quickly flip the power on the computer and pretend it suddenly shut down!
The week leading up to the birthday party we put my Tahoe up for sale, never dreaming it would sell so quickly. It sold the first day we listed it, which caused Scott to decide we needed to go to Dallas car shopping on Saturday, which cause me to almost have a panic attack! We had 30+ people coming to the house, how in the world would I be able to decorate AND be in Dallas? And, how would we be SURE we would be home in time?!?! All of the stars must have been in line just right because it went off without a hitch! Tony and Linda stayed at home with the kids and took care of ALL of the food preparation and decorating. Scott and I headed to Dallas, test drove my Suburban, paid for it and headed back home…WAY TOO EARLY! So along the way home I talked him into stopping at the Dallas Animal Control (I know, like we need any new animals!) and then we stopped for lunch. Still too early to head home since people wouldn’t arrive until just before 4:00 PM. Luckily we were in separate vehicles so I was able to call Linda to somehow stall him. Tony pulled through! He told Scott he needed him to stop at Bass Pro Shop on the way home…PERFECT! That guy can burn an hour in that store better than anyone I know! Once we left Bass Pro shop we were *just* about on schedule when we got stuck in an accident…even better! So by the time we made it through the traffic and got home we arrived at 4:15, and Scott was greeted with this:
The funny thing was, Scott actually spoke to every, single person that attended the party earlier in the day for one reason or another, and NO ONE slipped! He even invited everyone to his own birthday BBQ the following Sunday, and no one gave away the surprise!!!
We had such a nice time and such a great turn out. And, he got a pretty special gift from his Mom. She created a scrapbook showcasing all of his Football articles, copied all of his football game films, AND recreated his CIF Champion Football ring!!! When Scott was in High School his Football team won the state championship 4 years in a row so each player was able to purchase a ring, somewhat like a Superbowl ring. In our move from California to Texas the ring was lost and he has been sad about it ever since. His Mom contacted the original company who, after a bunch of legwork on her part, re-cast the ring!!! He was SO excited, and it definitely kicked off his birthday the right way.
Thanks to everyone who made it to the party, you truly mean the world to Scott and I and we are SOOOO lucky to have such a great group of friends and family!
