Weekend stuff

This past weekend was pretty uneventful for our family. On Saturday we got to sleep in later than usual, and then piddled around most of the day. I mowed the front yard while Scott worked a little more on our new pipe fence we are putting in across the front of the property. At one point while I was mowing I looked up to see Scott laying down on his stomach and waving at me. I smiled and waved back and kept mowing a couple more seconds before I realized it was odd for him to be laying on his stomach in the front yard waving at me….the poor guy had thrown out his BACK. So I ran over and helped him to his feet and helped him hobble to the house. Needless to say he was pretty much done working the rest of the day! I decided to head to Walmart to do our weekly grocery shopping…bad idea! People back in Texas take preparing for storms VERY seriously, so the isles were jam-packed with people stocking up for the storm of the century….bottle water, extension cords, towels, blankets…do people not normally have towels and blankets?!?! Sunday we went to church and then went to our friend Travis & Holly’s little girl, Kara’s 2nd birthday party (I have pictures of Kara in an earlier blog). I can’t believe the little munchkin is already 2! I had to leave the party early to go work the evacuee check in (the city that I work for was in charge of placing evacuees in area churches since all of the hotels were booked). Scott stuck around the party and said that Travis gave Gunner ice cream…he said he was bouncing off the walls!!! Monday we finished mowing the lawns and installed our new storm door on the back porch. As the sun was setting some gorgeous clouds started rolling in as Hurricane Gustav approached our part of the country.

We were projected to get between 9-16 inches of rain over the next day and a half, but since the storm has started to die out our biggest concern will be tornadoes. I’ll keep you posted if we get any “good” weather…no news is good news. Hope everyone has a great week!
