1-year baby checkup

Today Gunner & Karlee got to go in for their 1-year well-baby checkup and shots appointment. Shots were awful, but more on that in a bit. Little Miss Karlee Jane now weighs 23.2 pounds and is 29 3/4" long, and Mister Gunner-Man weighs 23.7 pounds and is 29 1/8" long. Gunner is still a tad shorter then his sister, but I'm confident he'll catch up by next year. I think once he starts walking gravity will stretch him out a little bit more and he'll gain at least an inch (wishful thinking anyway!)
Their Doctor is VERY happy with their development, both physically and mentally. She's impressed at how mature they are, and how their motor skills are just as advanced as full-term babies of their same age. (Always nice to hear that the Doctor thinks your babies are smart!) They got the 100% go-ahead to eat and drink whatever we want to give them, so good-bye stinky formula, HELLO Moo-juice (whole milk)! We're going to wait until this weekend to try milk just in case their tummies don't like it too well. They also have officially graduated to big-kid car seats!
As for the shots: HORRIBLE! When they were younger they cried, but since they were so little they didn't really look you in the eye and make you feel guilty for the pain being inflicted upon them. Now that they're a year old they can definitely break your heart with one outstretched bottom lip. Karlee was up first. She laid on the table smiling and talking to the nurse as I held her arms down. The first shot I think caught her off-guard because she just went silent and looked at me like "What is going on?" At this point I had already started singing the ABC's to her(While I was pregnant I would sing the ABC's whenever I thought about it: driving down the road, while laying on the couch, etc. so it's their favorite song. Whenever they hear it they stop what they're doing...even crying...to smile from ear to ear.) Anyway, 2nd shot, I'm still singing, 3rd shot my voice is cracking, and by the time the 4th shot was given I was crying so hard I couldn't even talk! It was TERRIBLE. HATED it. Luckily Karlee quit crying LONG before I did, so Scott got a great laugh at my expense. Next up was Gunner, who Scott was in charge of holding. Scott didn't sing the ABC's, but Gunner's sequence of events went just about the same as Karlee's: resulting in me crying more than the kids. When it was all said and done all THREE of us got suckers, because candy makes everything better :) Needless to say they don't go back for another checkup and more shots until they are 18 months and I am GLAD!
